As she melts she warns Fionna to be careful when using magic artifacts. Due to the Ice Queen and Cake having a shared past, Fionna is probably adopted and raised in a different way. The Ice Queen eventually manages to undo the effect of the gem by consuming a lot of heat and melting. While not explicity stated the gem seems to have side effects similar to the Ice Kings crown and in fact is implied to be part of Ice Queens Tiara. The nymph is eventually fatally injured and the cat helps her with a magic gem. It is revealed that the Ice Queen initially was a water nymph that made friends with a cat (implied to be Cake) by saving it. This backstory was eventually revealed in the Fionna and Cake comics. Natasha Allegri has confirmed that the Ice Queen has a different origin than the Ice King. In the Fionna and Cake comics she is revealed to be a quite tragic character as her schemes are all aimed at fixing her condition caused by her Tiara. She is more serious than the Ice King, but like her counterpart, she inevitably fails. She uses much more violent and complex means to get her way than the Ice King does, such as tormenting Fionna with a wild scheme in order to put her out of commission, and leaving her free to obtain Prince Gumball, while the Ice King would usually break in through a window with a cheesy phrase. Interestingly, despite being a creation of the Ice King's imagination, the Ice Queen is far more cruel, evil, and aggressive than he is. She also wears a blue long sleeved ball gown, and light and dark blue shoes. She wears a small golden tiara with red gems and a neck band bejeweled with a single blue gem in the center. Her hair, while also long like the Ice King's beard, is wavy with curls instead of shaggy. The Ice Queen has light blue skin, long white hair, and long lightning-shaped eyebrows.
